Richard E. Sperling, 85, of Mt. Prospect was called home to Heaven on January 20, 2016. “Dick” Sperling, son of late Fredreck Sr. and late Mida Thoma Sperling, husband of 59 years to Rita Wydrzynski Sperling. Dick passed peacefully at the home of Lee and Cindy Theis, his loving daughter in Palatine. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita. Loving father of four children: John Sperling (LaRae), Phil (Marybeth), Karen Wuestenfeld (Ken), Cindy Theis (Lee). Cherished grandfather of Cathy (Adam), Betsy (Ryan), Kelly (Will), Kyle (Aryn), Brian, Nicole, Eric, Jessica, Danny, and Marcus. Proud great- grandfather of Grace, Scarlett, and Lyla.
Dick honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. As a proud veteran, he was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 166 Glenview.
He worked as a butcher for specialty meat stores and cab owner of Niles Flash Cab Company until his retirement in the early 1990s. Dick spent many years in the Polar Bares of Northern Illinois Snowmobile Club. He was a joyous man of strong faith, deep integrity, and devotion to his family. He loved his family, friends, and neighbors. Dick spent many years ringing the bell for the Salvation Army in front of the Jewel Grocery Store in Mt. Prospect.
A memorial Mass will be held Jan 29th at St. Raymond de Penefort Church Elmhusrt Rd (Rt83) at Lincoln St.,Mt. Prospect Memorial gathering 9:30 until Mass 10:30.
